A polysomnographic technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director (MD, DO, PhD) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. A sleep technologist is able to perform the duties defined for a sleep technician and is able to provide oversight of other sleep center staff. The sleep technologist is credentialed in sleep technology.
Education: Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography. Or successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a Polysomnographic Technician.
Experience: One year of experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification: Certification by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) as a Registered Sleep Technologist(RST) or Registered by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT) as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist. (RPSGT)
Other: Must obtain AHA BLS-HCP certification by end of orientation and maintain. Demonstrates effective written and spoken communication skills. Demonstrates appropriate social skills. Demonstrates the ability to follow direction.
